In reading this week, we will continue discussing changes for our Unit 1 theme, this time connecting these changes to Native American history. We will study some text that gives information about Native American boarding schools, as well as what is now known as The Trail of Tears. For our Inquiry project, we will finalize our question, discuss a conjecture as to the answer to that question, and meet our group that we will be researching alongside. In grammar, we will be learning about singular and plural nouns, and we will continue studying long e words for spelling.
We will finish up our first formal piece of writing this week, one we used to learn about the stages of the Writing Process. To do this, we will need to finish editing our writing, and then, for those of us who returned permission slips for D2 apps, we will learn how to type our writing and share it to me in our Google drives for that final Publishing stage.
Math finds us at the end of Chapter 1 in GoMath, so we will be taking time on Monday and Tuesday to show what we know about addition properties, rounding, and addition and subtraction of larger numbers. We will also begin to learn about data and graphing at the end of this short week.
We will finish up our pumpkin project this week as well, adding Equators, Prime Meridians, and continents to our pumpkins. We had enough generous donations so that all students are able to work with a pumpkin of their own for this project, so thank you so much for your support! On that note, please send in more snacks if you are able. We have started receiving cooler snacks again this year; however, these are not delivered every day, so on the days that there is no cooler, we make up for that with donated snacks. If you can, please send in enough snack for our class of 19 students. Thank you in advance!!
This is going to be a short, fast week. Wednesday is an early out day, so students will be dismissed at noon. Regular bus and Boys and Girls Club attendees will be picked up as normal, but those students who are picked up at the end of the day need to make sure and remember that dismissal is at noon on Wednesday. Students who returned the half-page request slip last week will be given a sack lunch to eat before we dismiss. After that, there is no school on Thursday and Friday for students, while teachers study up at the MEA conference here in town. :)
Have a great week!
