This week in reading we will complete the fourth and final week of Unit 2 (Science at Play) in LEAD21. The focus question for the week is "How can we explore the science behind fun activities?" We will be reading a fiction piece in our Theme Readers called Owl Moon, by Jane Yolen, and we will be practicing the comprehension strategy of predicting as we go. We will continue to study singular and plural possessives in grammar, and we will also wrap up our study of long o words with a posttest in spelling this week. We will spend some time exploring compound words as well.
In writing, we will continue working on our "Million Dollar" essays, working through the drafting and revising stages of the Writing Process. For this piece, we are focusing on the trait of organization when thinking of the 6 traits of strong writing. What can your child tell you about "Stoplight Writing"?
In math this week, we continue exploring multiplication, learning specific strategies for the factors of 3, 6, and 7. We will be using Chapter 4 of our GoMath workbooks as one resource this week. Can your child tell you what the Distributive Property is? We will also spend some time this week creating our own bar graphs based on the one we made as a whole class last week.
This Wednesday Newman Elementary will be having another Spirit Day to support a new outdoor sound system for our school. If you would like to wear a hat on Wednesday (and be entered into a drawing for a prize), please remember to bring $1. Individual picture retakes are this Friday, as well. If you were not satisfied with your fall pictures, or you were not present that day, you may have a new picture taken on Friday.
Have a great week!
