This week in reading we will be working through week 4 of Unit 2 (Science at Play) in our LEAD21 program. The focus question for the week is "How can we explore the science behind fun activities?" We will spend time finishing up both Science All Around Us and Owl Moon in our theme readers. We will review all the vocabulary words for the unit this week. We will also be reviewing compound words and making predictions. In grammar, we will be learning about common and proper nouns, as well as the use of articles, like a and the. We will be finishing up our presentations for our Inquiry and presenting them to the class this week as well. The spelling skill for the week is 3-Letter Clusters.
In writing this week, we will finish up publishing and sharing our million-dollar essays, where we focused mainly on learning about organization. Then we will take some time to sort out narrative writing versus expository writing, before learning about our next piece, a news report. Can your child tell you the difference between expository and narrative writing?
For math this week, we will finish up our study of area, working more on areas of squares and rectangles so that we can related area to multiplication. We will also incorporate area into a special art project this week. Then we will go back to multiplication, reviewing the concept of arrays before moving on to learning strategies for each factor. This week we will get to the rules for multiplying by 2.
In science this week, we will review the parts of a flower that we learned about last week, as well as explore the life cycle of a conifer, or evergreen tree.
Vision screening will take place this Thursday the 20th.
Have a great week!
